Two people have died and two others have suffered serious injuries after a two-car crash in Essex.

Police and ambulance crews were called just after 3am on Sunday morning after the fatal smash involving a blue BMW and a silver vehicle on the B1007 Stock Road, by junction 16 of the A12.

A male driver of one of the cars, in his 30s, as well as a male passenger of the other car, in his fifties, died.

Two other men were taken to hospital with serious injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Images taken from the scene show the two damaged cars strewn across the Chelmsford roundabout, leaving the road closed all day.

Debris from the collision was scattered across the road as officers were at the scene piecing together what happened.

Two people have died following a collision in Chelmsford early this morning. Police were called shortly after 3am today (Sunday 23 March) to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the B1007 Stock Road, by junction 16 of the A12. Emergency services attended, but sadly two people, a man in his 50s (who was a passenger in one car) and a man in his 30s (who was the driver of the other car) died at the scene. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specialist officers. Two other men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. They are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. The road is still closed while officers carry out vital investigations. As police piece together what led to this tragic incident they particularly want to hear from anyone who may have seen a blue BMW 3 series car in the early hours of 23 March.
