Sister of missing man in Tenerife provides CCTV update

The family of a British man who went missing while on holiday in Tenerife have issued an update on his last known whereabouts.

Liam Hannigan hasn’t been in touch with his family or friends since February 7, and his sister Ellie believes his phone is switched off.

He first flew out there on holiday with his partner on December 29, but returned to visit friends he met during the trip.

A missing person appeal has been launched after his passport and one of his bank cards was found at a family friend’s house in the Los Cristianos resort.

Ellie previously issued a statement to the Manchester Evening News, but released a fresh update on the search for for brother on Facebook this morning.

She wrote: ‘We wanted to share an update regarding Liam. CCTV footage from the morning of 10/02/2025 confirms that Liam was seen walking alone, without any belongings and without the means to pay for food or drinks. While we are relieved to know he is safe, this situation still deeply concerns us as a family.

‘Liam’s mental state leading up to his disappearance was not the best, and we remain very worried about his well-being.

‘To address the rumors circulating on social media, we want to make it clear that Liam is not out drinking or involved in any illegal activities. This isn’t about a “bender” or him wandering off drunk. He is unwell, and what he needs right now is medical attention and the care that will help him get back to health.

‘As a family, we are doing everything we can to support Liam, and we ask for understanding and compassion. Mental health struggles are real, and it’s crucial that we give people the help they need—especially when they are going through something like this.’

She confirmed that the family were due to fly to Tenerife this morning to assist in the search for Liam.

Ellie told the MEN on Monday: ‘Normally if he wasn’t speaking to me, he’d speak to another of his sisters or our mum.

‘Over the weekend we realised he hadn’t contacted any of us, and his friends said they hadn’t seen him since Friday morning.

‘He’s very family orientated. He would never ever stress us out like this, it’s very unusual. My mum and step-dad are flying out today.

‘Even just a sighting or someone who assumes they’ve seen him could help. We just want him home’

Liam, 34, is around 6ft in1, slim, with tanned skin and a tattoo on his chest saying ‘Family First’ and a small ‘A’ on his wrist. He has a full beard.

He could be wearing a black shiny Moncler body warmer with a hood and green Croc shoes.

He was staying in the La Asomada area, but also visited friends in the Los Cristianos, spending money on a travel bank card there.

The Foreign Office has said they are supporting the family. A spokesperson said in a statement: “We are supporting the family of a British man in Tenerife.”

It is understood the case has also been reported to Greater Manchester Police.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police in Tenerife by making a report in English by phoning the National Police helpline on 902 102 112.
