Woman decapitated in tragic 28-storey fall from New York City apartment building as witnesses describe the horrific scene
An elderly woman has been decapitated after falling from the 28th floor of a New York apartment building.
Horrified witnesses reported that the 80-year-old was found on the ground with her head and arm severed from her body.
Witnesses said her body got caught on something during the fall with some believing it was likely a balcony edge that caused the terrifying decapitation.
A shocked resident told the New York Post: “I pulled up just as she was laying there, she had no head.
“The head and the arm were clean cut off on the other side, they ended up on the terrace.”
The unidentified woman plunged off from the 28th floor of the Park Regis Apartments at about 3:30pm on Saturday, cops said.
Her clothes were later discovered stuck on a fence near the bottom of the building.
Witnesses say the fence was left badly bent from the impact.
A 23-year-old who saw the ordeal unfold added: “Everyone started rushing towards the body but she was gone.
“Her body landed there but her head and leg hit the fence there, you can see it’s bent, there were clothes and blood stuck there.”
Officers quickly cordoned off the luxury apartment block with blue tape as several cop cars arrived to the scene.
The woman was covered in a white cloth before being taken away.
The New York Police Department are still investigating the possible motive behind the woman’s deathly plunge.
