Government disbanded due to disagreements on issues including foreign policy and asylum seekers, says Bjarni Benediktsson
Iceland’s three-party coalition government, in power since November 2021, collapsed on Sunday due to disagreements on policy issues, and new elections to be held in November, the country’s prime minister, Bjarni Benediktsson, has announced.
“There are very different views … on issues ranging from foreign policy to asylum seekers,” Benediktsson told reporters, adding that he would meet Iceland’s president to submit a proposal for the dissolution of parliament and parliamentary elections in November.
