A woman’s body has been found on a beach in south Wales with police launching an investigation.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police and UK Coastguard were seen at the beach near the Pennar area of Pembroke Dock on Tuesday evening. The woman’s family has been informed and her death is being treated as unexplained.

A spokesman for the force said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman who was found on a beach near Pennar, Pembrokeshire, at about 5pm on Tuesday, April 30. Her family has been informed. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.” Further details relating to the woman’s name or age have not been confirmed at this time.

Meanwhile, a body has been found in a river during a search for a missing teenager, reported WalesOnline. Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that a body was found in the Cleddau Estuary on May 1, as they looked for for a teenager named locally as Luke Stephenson.

The force said that formal identification has not yet taken place, however Luke’s family has been informed of this development. On Sunday, April 14, the police force issued their initial appeal for help to find Luke.

As part of this statement they said: "Information received indicates that Luke may have entered the water at the BOC Jetty on the end of Criterion Way, Pembroke Dock, and a search will continue in this area today. We are working closely with other agencies and a specialist police dive team is also involved in the search."

On Wednesday, May 1, the force confirmed a body had been found as part of the search. A spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm that a body has been found in the Cleddau Estuary at about 9.30am this morning, Wednesday, 1st May 2024. Formal identification has not yet taken place, however Luke’s family has been informed of this development. Our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult time.”
