The Duke of York was forced to slam the brakes on his Range Rover after coming too close for comfort to running over a dog.

Prince Andrew was driving down the Long Walk on the Windsor estate as walkers, including the dog’s owner, started waving frantically to get his attention.

Its owner also ran out into the road, but thankfully Andrew’s bodyguard got his attention, meaning the royal braked in time to avoid hitting the pooch.

The owner looked embarrassed as he retrieved his dog, but Andrew appeared to take the incident in good humour, smiling and waving afterwards.

A witness said there were lots of people walking in the park thanks to a break in the rain, telling The Mirror: ‘Andrew’s bodyguard saw the people frantically waving in the nick of time. Everyone was laughing when they saw who was driving the Range Rover.’

The near miss comes at an awkward time for Prince Andrew, as the Netflix film detailing his infamous interview on BBC Newsnight went up on the streaming site this week.

The film, called Scoop, goes into detail about how Emily Maitlis managed to land the interview with the prince, where he intended to defend his reputation and explain his friendship with disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Scoop was released on Friday, marking five years since the explosive interview first aired, and on the same day Prince Andrew was spotted horse riding around the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Prince Andrew was named in the legal deposition of Virginia Roberts, who claimed she was trafficked to him by Epstein for sex at the age of 17.

Prince Andrew and Buckingham Palace have always denied all of the claims against him.

In response to the backlash from the interview, Prince Andrew withdrew from his royal duties indefinitely in 2020. He has not commented on the release of the Netflix film.
