A man who brutally murdered his own baby has been beaten up in prison and left with a broken leg.
Craig Jamieson, 44, was caged for a minimum of 15 years in 2010 for the murder of his four-month-old daughter Abbie and was attacked while in HMP Edinburgh on March 19.
It is understood his injuries are so severe his entire leg and toes have turned black from bruising. As well as a broken leg, he also suffered a black eye and was left with a shoe print on his forehead.
"He always has a stock of stuff and sees the other cons alright if they are short on anything, then they have to pay him back. He keeps all the goods in his cell and he asked one of the guards to lock it when he went out one day, but they didn’t and some of the other prisoners started raiding it," a source told the Daily Record.
"They couldn’t resist the chance to stock up - he has everything. Craig then tried to stop the raid but they attacked him. They were kicking into him. He’s black and blue around his face and he was left with a footprint on his forehead. They also broke his leg. He was in a bad way."
Jamieson was found guilty of killing Abbie who was found with severe head and abdominal injuries at a flat in Glasgow in February 2008. The tot’s injuries were so severe they are usually only seen in car crash victims or people who fall from a great height onto concrete, reported the Daily Record.
Jamieson, who had a previous conviction for assault, posted a photo of himself pulling a face and flexing his muscles on the internet not long before her murder. During his trial he tried to blame the murder on Abbie’s mum Nichola Haddock.
Sentencing him, temporary judge Alastair Stewart QC said: "The jury found you guilty of the brutal murder of a defenceless child. This was not some momentary loss of control."
The source added: "He still claims he’s innocent and someone else was responsible for Abbie’s death. That’s what he claimed in the court case and that’s what he still believes now." When asked about the attack on Jamieson, and whether or not he had received medical treatment, a Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: "We do not comment on individuals."
