The Premier League match between Burnley and Wolves on Tuesday saw security staff forced to move fans away from a section of Turf Moor after a piece of cladding became unstable
A group of Burnley fans were ordered to evacuate a section of Turf Moor after a piece of metal was spotted hanging from the roof.
During Tuesday night’s Premier League clash with Wolves, security staff had to move supporters away from an area of the Jimmy McIlroy stand due to an apparent issue with the stadium’s cladding. Early in the first half, fans were spotted being removed from the at-risk section.
The club said in a post shared on social media platform Twitter/X: "Burnley fans are in the process of being moved from a section of the Jimmy McIlroy stand due to current safety concerns with the roof. We thank supporters for their co-operation and patience while we do this."
Supporters who had to move were taken to the Turf Moor fan zone to watch the remainder of the game which finished 1-1. Burnley winger Jacob Bruun Larsen opened the scoring in the 37th minute, producing an emphatic volley which flew into the bottom corner past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
In added time of the first half, the away side hit back through Rayan Ait-Nouri. The left-back arrived in the box to cushion a header into the Burnley net and level the scores.
The hosts dominated the second half but were unable to find a winner, settling for a second successive draw which could only move Burnley within six points of safety after Nottingham Forest cruised to a 3-1 win at home to Fulham. Elsewhere in the relegation battle, Everton earned a point by draw 1-1 at Newcastle thanks to a late penalty.
The two teams currently joining Burnley in the relegation zone, Luton and Sheffield United, play later this week. Post-match, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany bemoaned a foul which was given in the build-up to Wolves’ equaliser.

"I always want to reflect on the game, but the goal we concede, it’s just not a foul," Kompany told Match of the Day. "The lad just slides over after he tries a pirouette. The referee’s in the best position on the pitch. He just falls over and we get a set-piece against us and concede a goal. As much as I want to look at my team, it does seem to be the trend of this season. These moments cost us."
Asked for his verdict on the incident, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil said: "I haven’t seen it back. It looked like they had a couple of nibbles at Rayan. I haven’t seen it but I thought at the time there was a foul in there. Whether it was the last one, or the one before, there were a couple of nibbles in there."
