Kylian Mbappe has previously dubbed Jurgen Klopp as a "very good manager" as the French superstar is the subject of fresh rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward only penned a fresh contract with the Ligue 1 giants last summer, which many thought tied the 24-year-old to the Parc des Princes until 2025. It has since emerged it only actually runs until 2024, with the option to extend for a further 12 months but only if Mbappe triggers the clause himself.

Spanish titans Real Madrid have long been the destination many expected Mbappe to end up at should he leave the French capital, but Liverpool have been outside runners for his signature for quite some time.

Hopes among the Anfield faithful were only raised when Mbappe heaped praise on the way Liverpool played throughout the 2019/20 season - a campaign that saw the Reds lift their first ever Premier League title.

Speaking in 2020, the Frenchman claimed: 2020: "This season, Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy. Performances like they have been having don't just happen.

Mbappe didn't stop there and had some compliments for Klopp as well, adding: "To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager."

The fresh rumours linking Mbappe with a move to Merseyside stem from a report in the Athletic that claims PSG could be willing to oversee his exit, but only if he joins Liverpool instead of his ideal club Real Madrid.

Those at the top of the PSG hierarchy appear to be growing tired of the constant speculation surrounding Mbappe's future and are open to the idea of his exit, but not if he plans to join the reigning LaLiga champions.

Much of the transfer hinges on just how desperate Mbappe is to force through a PSG exit.

He already has history with Liverpool, after Reds owner John W. Henry allegedly held contract talks with the France international on the American's private jet before he eventually opted for the Ligue 1 behemoths.

Klopp has hardly kept his admiration of Mbappe a secret either, telling RMC Sport back in 2018: "I love him, to be honest. What a player he is and a nice lad as well, so he's a really good kid. What a player, what a player.

"Everyone knows him since he was 16, 17 when he impressed in Monaco's youth teams, and I saw videos of him when he was 17 and he destroyed defensive lines as he is doing now."

For all of Liverpool's flirting and Mbappe's compliments, it is widely believed the forward still has his heart set on plying his trade at the Santiago Bernabeu if he is to leave PSG.
