CBS Sports presenter Kate Abdo has addressed the brutally awkward exchange shared with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher during their Champions League coverage this week.

On Tuesday, after Arsenal's win over Porto, Carragher donned a Gunners shirt and suggested Abdo follow suit, before she opted against and insisted she was 'too loyal' to do such a thing. The Reds icon then saw his risky gag fall flat when he questioned her.

The 46-year-old pundit opened the exchange: "You [Thierry Henry] can wear it next and for the last part [of the show] you [Abdo] have got to wear it." The presenter hit back "No, I am loyal" in reference to her support of Arsenal's Premier League rivals Manchester United.

"Not to Malik", Carragher replied, meaning Abdo's parter Malik Scott, who is the trainer of boxing titan Deontay Wilder. "What? Why would you say that?" said the broadcaster before the former England international claimed: "He hasn't had a mention in the show yet, has he?"

The joke has since been the subject of plenty of scrutiny on social media, with many arguing Carragher crossed the line with such an inappropriate remark. However, there doesn't seem to be any lingering ill-feeling, with Abdo making light of the situation for CBS' second night of Champions League coverage on Wednesday.

Opening the show alongside the usual punditry trio of Carragher, Henry and Micah Richards, Abdo told viewers: "Well, after yesterday's road trip to the Emirates we are back home in our studio in London and it is good to be here. I am Kate Abdo and this group, well you know we've been together for three and a half years, I grew up with a brother and doing this show I've gained three more here at the desk.

"Let me introduce you to the group again- Thierry Henry, the golden child who can do no wrong and always says the right thing, sets the example for the rest of us, can he be intimidating? Yes he can, but he is the big brother we all look up to and we all aspire to."

It was at this stage a grin appeared on Carragher's face as Abdo continued: "Then, there is the middle child, Jamie Carragher. A chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention, does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely.

"Does he apologise? Yes he does, but all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept."

Abdo wrapped up by summing up Richards, before she recieved a round of applause from all three pundits. The monologue came in for plenty of praise online, with viewers on social media insisting it was the perfect way to draw a line under the debacle.
