Moment massive herd of deer invades main road and brings traffic to a standstill

Watch the incredible moment that traffic is brought to a standstill by a seemingly never-ending herd of deer.

The creatures were caught on camera on Monday morning crossing the road on the A15 in Lincolnshire by an onlooking motorist's dashcam. The footage sees queues of traffic in both directions brought to a halt as hordes and hordes of the skittish animals burst through the hedgerow for nearly a minute straight. Video footage shows the filming car sitting stationary behind a white Audi, second in the queue of cars that has been forced to stop as a result of the herd.

In the opposite lane, a queue of traffic is backed up as far as the eye can see, snaking around a corner thanks to the unusual obstacle in the drivers' way. The motorists watch on as throngs of deer break through the barren hedge on one side of the road and gallop across before disappearing again into the hedgerow on the other side.

At least 100 of the animals pour out of the field on the other side of the hedge in breathtaking numbers as the queues of stunned drivers watch on. The spectacle lasts for almost 40 seconds on the video, with the herd eventually thinning out towards the end as a handful of stragglers bring up the rear.

Crawling their way up a slight hill, across the road and then out of sight the last of the deer makes its way across safely. Incredibly, according to the motorist who recorded the footage, only about one third of the total animals who crossed were caught on camera, with the further two thirds having crossed before it even began recording.

The video was shared to social media on Monday (11 MAR) with the caption: "This morning. My friend who filmed it said he estimated two thirds had already crossed before he started recording." The clip has since received over 2,700 likes and more than 110 comments from Brits left astonished at the sheer number of animals in the herd.

One user said: "And that's why we so desperately need lynx in this country. The amount of damage to the understory this herd will do leaves no room for nesting birds." Another added: "I love deer, but too many do damage. Looks like a cull, and some venison with red wine jus is needed. Yum."

A third commented: "Crikey that's some herd. Love how everyone stopped to let them pass." Another replied: "A wildlife crossing is needed here. For the deer's sake and people or there could be a serious accident."
