Before he's even played a single game in the NFL, former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy is set to be honoured by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This comes after his record-breaking 40-yard-dash time of 4.21 at the NFL Combine.

The two-tone orange and red Adidas boots and sleeveless "No Bull" tank top that Worthy wore during his record-setting run will be put on display in the hall. The 20 year old achieved this impressive feat during his second attempt, smashing the previous record of 4.22 held by ex-Cincinnati Bengals player John Ross.

Worthy initially ran a 4.25 before going again to break the record. There was a slight hiccup with the clock being .1 seconds off, but this was quickly corrected to show his official time. NFL fans have reacted positively to the news of Worthy's achievement being immortalised in the hall.

One fan commented, "Bro ran a 40 and is already part of the HOF". Another added, "It's got to be awesome for a hasn't even played a down in the NFL yet."

Worthy received further praise from fans, with one saying: "Getting stuff in the hall before you even are in the NFL must be cool." A poll under the post showed over 80 percent of NFL fans were in favour of Worthy's gear being displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The quick 40-yard dash by the player caught the attention of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who instantly took to Twitter, exclaiming: "4.25 is crazy."

After realising his error, he quickly corrected himself with the correct time in a follow-up tweet. Mahomes then reportedly sent Worthy a congratulatory text message, which also hinted at the possibility of the Chiefs picking him for their team as the No. 32 overall pick.

It's thought that the team will be looking at improving both their defence and offence, especially in areas like tackling, running back, and wide receivers.

Currently, a lot of mock drafts have predicted that Worthy will be chosen by the Chiefs as their final first-round pick. The talented Texas wide receiver talked about the possibility of joining the Chiefs during the NFL Combine.

He said, "In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs. Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you," added Worthy about his ideal future team. "They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me."

Last year, Worthy achieved incredible stats, with 75 successful catches from playing 14 games, accounting for 1,014 receiving yards and scoring five touchdowns. This placed him second-highest in the Big 12.

In 2022, Worthy was named a second-team All-Big 12 selection at wide receiver by the Big 12 Conference head coaches and the Associated Press. He was shortlisted for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and Biletnikoff Award. Outside of excelling on offense, he was named a First Team All-SEC Punt Returner.
