Pep Guardiola admitted Ederson "doesn't look good" after the Manchester City keeper was forced off in the draw with Liverpool.

The Brazilian has been a key part of City's last five Premier League title wins and is largely seen as being one of the world's best goalkeepers. But it appears that Guardiola is facing up to the possibility of being without his star for an extended period of time.

He came off 11 minutes into the second-half after injuring his leg as he fouled Darwin Nunez to give away the penalty from which Alexis Mac Allister scored Liverpool's equaliser. After referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot, Ederson spent more than two minutes being treated.

Ten minutes later, the Brazilian went down to the ground, with City readying Stefan Ortega to come on. Ederson duly went off, heading straight down the tunnel to City's dressing room at Anfield.

And after the game, City boss Guardiola admitted he had been left fearing the worst after being updated on Ederson's condition by the club's medical staff. He told beIN Sports: “It doesn’t look good.”

Guardiola was pleased with his side's performance despite seeing his side gift Liverpool an equaliser through Nathan Ake's ill-time backpass, which led to the penalty. Instead, he insisted that City did well to combat the Liverpool "tsunami".

"Good moments from both sides. We started really well. We have to never ever forget when we play in this stadium otherwise we don't have a chance, knowing it will be so difficult," he said.

"It was a tight game on moments. Not a game where all the time a team controls it. A lot of credit to Liverpool. They proved again what they have done is unbelievable for this rivalry. I know how difficult it is to come here and win.

"The players gave everything. I give credit to the opponents and take the point. We knew we would have 10-15 minutes when it is a tsunami and you have to survive. We are there, we'd loved to have won but we could have lost. It is what it is."

Neville believes that the incident that saw Liverpool win the penalty was a "moment of madness" from City. The Manchester United legend criticised both Ederson and Ake for their roles.

"In a moment of madness, Ake just leaves his backpass short and Ederson, who usually is so composed, is never getting there! He just wellies Nunez up into the air! I just usually would’ve expected Ederson to read that backpass is coming too short," he said.

"To try and jockey Nunez into a bad angle, but he just commits to it and wipes him out. [Mac Allister scores] Game on! Let the chaos begin! He goes the right way, Ederson, but it’s the power that beats him."
