Fans will remember the iconic Nineties dance - but can you remember the pop star?

Her one-hit wonder shot to Number One way back in 1994 and the video saw her getting ready for a big night out in a lit-up dressing room mirror. It starts with her wearing a pink towel and singing down a hairdryer before cutting to her all dressed up with her signature blonde plaited pigtails and black choker necklace on.

Now 53, the Danish pop star is still performing and recently made a starring appearance at Mighty Hoopla Festival at Butlins Bognor Regis singing her classic tunes, which went down a treat with the crowd. But these days she looks a little different and has ditched her blonde locks for a longer darker hairstyle.

In her most recent Instagram post, the star looked amazing posing in a skin-tight bondage-style black catsuit with a red belt cinching in at the waist and her hair tied up in a high ponytail. Showing she has no signs of slowing down anytime soon, she captioned the post: “Just getting warmed up for 2024.”

And we can reveal the Nineties pop star in question is none other than Whigfield, whose real name is Sannie Charlotte Carlson who soared to the top of the charts with her huge hit Saturday Night. Some of her 53,000 Instagram followers were quick to comment underneath, with one saying: “Che Bella catsuit.” Another fan wrote: “All the moves babe.” A third commented: “Come Back!” While a fourth posted: “Beautiful as ever Wiggy when are u gonna age xxx.”

Whigfield was the first female to enter the UK Official Singles Chart with a debut single at Number 1 and even managed to end Wet, Wet, Wet’s 15-week long run in the top spot with their hit ‘Love Is All Around’. It also cemented her in history as the first Danish act to ever score a Number 1 song in the UK.

While Whigfield hasn’t had a huge hit since the success of Saturday Night, she is still making music. She has also released songs under the stage name Naan and more recently her real name Sannie. Whigfield’s other singles include Sexy Eyes and Think Of You, the latter of which was another top 10 hit in the UK.

Boys on Girls, released under the name Sannie in 2018, is her most recent music offering. But although Saturday Night was a global hit, Whigfield recently admitted she has never done the dance routine. In an interview with the songstress shared: “I still remember the dance, but I didn’t do it.”

She said to this day she still doesn’t know who came up with the routine, but it’s thought to have originated from a gym instructor who took it to the clubs around Europe at the time. And she revealed the ‘dee dee na na na’ at the start of the song wasn’t supposed to make the final cut. “People think it was meant on purpose, but it was actually a bad take,” she explained. “Larry, the producer, put it in the song because he thought it was catchy.”
