Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale admitted that he owed his team-mates and fans for the support shown to him, following his error in the Gunners win over Brentford.

There were fears that the former Bournemouth and Sheffield United shot-stopper could have set his team back in the title race when he was too slow to deal with Gabriel's pass. Yoane Wissa was able to close down Ramsdale on his six-yard line to block the 25-year-old's clearance and send the ball into the net during first-half stoppage time.

That left Arsenal with work to do as the sides returned to the dressing room with the scores level. Mikel Arteta's team knew a win would see them at the top of the table ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester City.

The north London side were forced to work for their three points and Ramsdale responded to his error with some crucial saves as his side struggled to find the net. Kai Havertz made the crucial breakthrough after 86 minutes to ensure his teammate's mistake didn't cost the side.

Regardless, Ramsdale was thankful to be back in goal with David Raya unable to face his parent club. The England international appreciated the efforts of his team.

He said on Instagram: "This team. It was tough out there but it was special to be back. I owe my team mates and the you amazing fans the world for the support I get week in week out."

Speaking following the game, Havertz detailed how Arsenal's dressing room reacted to their setback at half-time. The German ace suggested he was quick to reflect on his own mistakes as much as Ramsdale's.

He told Sky Sports: "It wasn’t nice especially when you concede so closely to the whistle. But we all spoke with each other then and made sure we rallied around each other because I don’t think we’d deserved to concede but mistakes are part of the game. I had a few mistakes that could’ve led to goals so we wanted to turn it around, spoke to each other and showed a good mentality."

Arsenal defender William Saliba expressed a similar sentiment. The centre-half even went as far as to praise Ramsdale for his efforts in the second period.

He told beIN Sports : "We said we have to come out in the second half to win. Everyone has made mistakes, in the last month I made two mistakes and my team saved me... so second half is the reverse, because they had three good chances and he saved us, so that's a good mentality from the team."
