Jonnie Irwin has revealed he's had a major lifestyle overhaul after receiving advice from his mentor and a cancer survivor who has written a book about her battle.

The former A Place In The Sun presenter revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, before disclosing that the disease had spread, leaving him with a terminal diagnosis.

Jonnie's cancer spread to his brain, leaving him with just several months to live.

Now Jonnie, 49, has opened up about his journey, explaining that he has met up with author Jane McLelland who he has described as his mentor during his journey.

"Her story is truly an inspiration and in my opinion a must-read for anyone affected by cancer.

"It's inspired me to change my lifestyle and importantly given me hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. Don't get me wrong- it's bloody hard but I'm on board!"

Jane has survived stage four cancer having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer when she was 35 and was given a one-in-20 chance of surviving more than five years.

However, the author has been in remission after signs and symptoms of her cancer appeared to be reduced in 2004.

Her approach includes diet and exercise advice, key supplements and even certain off-label drugs.

Fans soon flocked to the comment section to throw their support behind Jonnie with one writing: "Love and strength to you Jonnie you also look healthier than you did on the Lorraine show in Nov/Dec if you don't mind me saying so."

"Yes Jonnie!!! I fought cancer this way as well. You can do this," exclaimed another.

A third commented: "Look look healthier in this photo than in some of the past ones. Hopefully, you feel a bit better as well. Prayers for you and your family!!"

While Jane penned: "So lovely to meet you @jonnieirwintv! I know it's a tough road but you are determined and strong. Your positivity was so good to see. Here for you and Jess to help where I can and to point you in the direction of others when I can't. Sending lots of love to you both."

Speaking about his diagnosis in November, Jonnie told Hello magazine that he had got into the habit of not planning ahead "because I might not be well enough".
