Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has revealed her pet dog saved her family from armed robbers who tried to break in to their house as they slept.

The soap actress, 36, her businessman fiancé Ollie Piotrowski and their son Forest, 11 months, were tucked up in bed when Dobermann Stella started barking. Realising Stella was sounding an alarm, Jorgie and Ollie checked their security cameras – and were horrified to see masked intruders trying to get through their gate.

Thankfully, Stella’s barking disturbed the burglars, who fled. Afterwards, the couple realised the robbers had spent up to two hours trying to disable their security system.

Speaking on our Invite Only podcast alongside her Hollyoaks co-star Kieron Richardson, Jorgie says: “Our dog Stella saved us. She scared them away, so they didn’t get in.

“But it was the scariest thing because we were all in [the house]. And you can see from the CCTV footage that they had things... we don’t know what they were holding. I was asleep, but Ollie heard Stella barking in a different way. So he went to check on her, and when he looked outside... the lights [on the system] were off.

“He phoned the police and they then turned up. Yeah, it was horrible. [Afterwards] we had all these friends and relatives round. We had like a gang in the house, camping together. You just don’t know what they’re going to do, or if they’re going to come back, or what. I even said to the police, ‘Please can you just look after us for a bit?’ And they said, ‘Yes, we totally can’.”

Since October’s attempted break-in, the couple have upped the levels of security at their Cheshire mansion. Jorgie adds: “We were even looking to get another dog because we thought, you know, that was so brilliant, what Stella did. We joke that we’ve given her a wage and a security badge.”

On police advice, Jorgie – who plays Theresa McQueen in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks – posted the CCTV footage of the intruders on her Instagram account. She also used the same tactic when her best pal, fellow Hollyoaks star Kieron, 38, became the target of homophobic abuse.

Kieron, who plays Ste Hay in the soap, says: “We did have [homophobic abuse] once in the street. Jorgie was with me, actually, and she was amazing. We were getting in a taxi and they shouted some homophobic abuse or whatever. And then we were at the traffic lights with them together.

“I got really brave and went out the window, ‘What did you just say?’ And then he was, like, ‘Nothing, I didn’t say anything’. Then, as the light turned green again, he got brave and cocky and then started shouting abuse again.”

Jorgie adds: “I was so shocked. I thought ‘Oh my God!’ And I wanted to give it back as well, I literally wanted to chase him. We filmed them, and then I put it out there, because I was, like, ‘Absolutely not, you cannot get away with that. That’s my best friend’.

“Anyone who starts with my best friend, I’m, like, ‘No, I’m having you’. People knew who it was, so I think they got fired from work. It was a massive shock that that kind of thing still would happen. You don’t want it to happen to anyone, but especially not Kieron, who is the best man in the world.”

Kieron came out on ITV’s This Morning in 2010. He admits he was petrified but says it was the best thing he’s ever done. He adds: “That feeling of elation from coming out… from that moment, you can be your true, authentic self and not hide any more. You’re not lying to people. It was a pinnacle moment.”
