Harry Redknapp admits that he'd give the Liverpool job to Steven Gerrard once Jurgen Klopp departs in the summer.
The Reds will be on the lookout for a new boss once the season ends with Klopp opting to leave after almost nine years at Anfield. He's presided over a hugely successful era and the German will leave a sizeable void when he does walk away from the dugout.
Attention has turned to who should replace him and Gerrard, who once would've been a leading contender, has fallen down the pecking order. The midfielder is among the club's greatest players and previously coached the youth ranks before going out on his own.
He led Rangers to the Scottish title, ending Celtic's dominance, before Aston Villa came calling. He had a strong initial impact at Villa Park before he struggled for results in his second season and was sacked with the Midlands club in a relegation scrap. Gerrard is now leading Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.
Redknapp though has told BetVictor : "I’m going to say somebody and people are going to think that I’m off my head, but I would give it to Steven Gerrard. I know people will say that he was a failure at Aston Villa and it didn’t go great there, but he’s a Liverpool man and was an incredible player for them. He’s got passion for the game and I used to listen to him speak when he was at Rangers and always thought he was going to be top drawer. I would love to see him manage Liverpool."

Clubs, particularly in Europe, have been known to appoint club legends who have minimal experience as a manager. Pep Guardiola is among the greatest success stories at Barcelona whilst Real Madrid also opted to hand Zinedine Zidane the top job despite his lack of experience.
Klopp previously suggested it was inevitable that Gerrard would be back at Anfield, albeit his stock was considerably higher at that point. The German though did concede that timing was key, citing the issues faced by Frank Lampard when he landed the Chelsea job.

When is the right moment to take the manager’s job? We saw it with Frank at Chelsea. But yes, I think it will definitely happen - and good for everybody.
“I don’t know what you have to do before you become Liverpool manager. I know people say you have to win things but I’m not sure about that. It is more important you win things when you are here, you don’t have to win things in the past with all this ‘proven winner’ rubbish."
