Jurgen Klopp is keen to get Mo Salah minutes against Sparta Prague to get him up to speed for crunch time in Liverpool ’s season - including Sunday's showdown with Manchester City.

Salah, 31, has travelled with the Reds squad for the Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday night. The Egypt star has played just 45 minutes - in a 4-1 win over Brentford last month - since picking up a hamstring injury at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But Klopp is eager to get his star man back in action with Manchester City to come in a Premier League title race blockbuster on Sunday before they face United next week in the FA Cup. He said: “ Mo Salah has travelled. He is with us and has trained two days, he is full of energy, we have to see.

“But it is so good that he is back. We want to be careful, we have to be careful. But we're in the middle of a super intense period of the season and we need everyone.

“So let's see how long we can use him and these kinds of things. Yes, it's just good news.” Salah, who is expected to come off the bench in Prague, is set to be called up by Egypt for their upcoming friendly tournament which has two games and kicks off against New Zealand later this month.

But Klopp refused to get involved in a club v country row as he added: “That is nothing to do with us, really. That will be decided by different departments. Let's see how long he can play now.

“He has only been two days in team training. In a different situation players are not in the squad at this moment but now the situation makes sense. What can you give them? How much can you use them? And then these two games with Egypt, it is really not up to me. We're not involved.

“You can discuss in other departments, let me say it like that.”
