The godmother of a 10-year-old girl found dead inside her family home says her “heart hurts” following the tragedy.
Shay Kang died at the house on Monday lunchtime, hours after she was seen playing with friends in the street. Her mum Jaskirat Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, was charged with her daughter’s murder today. The 33-year-old, who is due to appear in court, lived with Shay in the terraced house in Rowley Regis, West Midlands.
Hundreds of well-wishers left balloons and teddy bears in the youngster’s memory at the end of the quiet cul-de-sac. Shay’s godmother Kayleigh Colclough posted a series of heartbreaking tributes and photos on Facebook. Kayleigh, who previously lived with Kaur and Shay in Smethwick, West Mids, wrote: “I’ll miss you baby girl. My heart hurts.”
In a separate post she added: “I took them in and they lived with me for 5 years. I wouldn't say I'm much of a godmother now I let you down but I PROMISE YOU I WILL GET YOU JUSTICE. I promise you I will get justice for Shay. I’m grieving for a child that wasn't even mine.
"I’m not sure how I feel. I feel sick, numb, angry and a failure. I’m totally heartbroken. I’m so, so sorry baby girl. I’ll forever miss you but remember I’m bringing you justice.”
Double killer who slit girlfriend's throat within weeks of release jailedPolice say a post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of Shay’s death. Her primary school paid tribute on Tuesday to the “happy, fun-loving” youngster who was “well liked by all”. A woman whose child went to school with Shay said: “She wasn’t your typical girly girl.
“She was quiet and loved going to school, where she seemed to be doing well.” A neighbour added: “I would see her and the other kids out in the street drawing pictures in chalk. She was adorable.” A GoFundMe page set up to pay for Shay’s funeral has raised over £3,000.
