Roy Keane claims Burnley have been "dreadful" and is stunned that Vincent Kompany hasn't looked to address their defensive issues.
The Belgian led the Clarets to the Championship title last term, topping the second tier in impressive fashion. Kompany enjoyed a trophy-laden playing career and had begun proving himself in the dugout, but Burnley now face a tough task to remain in the Premier League.
Keane insists managers who succeed in the Championship with a specific playing style have to show a sense of pragmatism when they get into the top flight. The Irishman also cited the defensive qualities of Kompany as a player, which makes their 59 goals conceded all the more surprising.
He said on Sky Sports: "You know what they've been dreadful. We talk about teams, trying to compare having a style of play in the Championship to the Premier League when its chalk and cheese. It is impossible. They look weak physically, the goals they're giving away are schoolboy stuff.
"I admire managers who have a philosophy, but you've got to adapt. They've been nowhere near good enough. The stats against this team is embarrassing so the manager and the staff have to change something. If you can't defend properly you're in trouble and if you can't score goals you'll be back in the Championship.
Roy Keane leaves Sky Sports pundits in stitches with cheeky Erik ten Hag request"I think we've gone too easy on some of the managers down the bottom. Kompany as an example, an outstanding centre-half, he must know defensively his team are all over the place. You've got to give yourself a chance of winning games and at the moment they've been shocking."
Only Sheffield United have conceded more goals than the Clarets, who are currently 11 points from safety having won just three games all season. Kompany was adamant, before their clash with Bournemouth, that his players needed to prove themselves in front of the Turf Moor crowd.
He said: "We have to look at every game as an opportunity, every game we play between now and the end of the season is one. It will be a good game between two teams who want to get a result today and hopefully, it goes well for us. For those players out there, it's time to lace up your boots and do something in front of your fans. That's all that matters. Leave the doubt behind you and that's so important today.
