Tributes have been paid to an 11-year-old boy died after being struck by a bin lorry on Friday morning.
Emotional messages have been left for the tragic youngster who, despite the best efforts of paramedics, was declared dead at the scene in Braepark, Edinburgh. Flowers have been left at the scene at the junction of two residential roads in the northwest of the Scottish capital. One poignant card reads: "A boy taken too young, and too soon, but although not here in person will always be remembered."
Helen Donaldson, the headteacher at Cramond Primary School, where the boy was a pupil, described him as a smiling, positive, friendly, and curious member of the school community. Councillor Kevin Lang emphasised the community's strength and the necessity of coming together to support the grieving family and ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.
scotland>Police Scotland has launched an investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. Inspector Andrew Thomson urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the enquiry, including dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.
The boy's family is being supported by specially trained officers during this incredibly difficult time. Authorities are determined to understand what happened and take swift action to prevent such incidents from occurring again.

The boy, however, is the second child killed after being hit by a bin lorry in Scotland recently following the death of Elizabeth Bell, also 11, in East Gordon, Scottish Borders.
Elizabeth died at Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh one week after the collision, which happened near a junction with an unclassified local road. Sergeant Dom Doyle said: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family and they have asked for privacy at this very difficult time. Inquiries are ongoing and we are asking anyone who has not already spoken to officers and can assist with our investigation to get in touch.”
Gordon and Earlston Primary Schools, where Elizabeth was a pupil, has set up a GoFundMe page to give her "the best possible send-off". A statement on the page reads: "Following the tragic loss of our lovely Elizabeth, our school communities are keen to support her family in giving her the best possible send off. Elizabeth was a bright, friendly, kind and caring soul who was a valued member of Gordon and Earlston Primary Schools and will be dearly missed."
