It's been a challenging time for the Royal Family, with both Kate and King Charles unable to perform official duties due to health issues, and these more recent setbacks follow years of public discord between the Windsors since Meghan and Harry left the UK and stepped back as working royals.

As family infighting has dominated the headlines, even Prince Harry himself has expressed that it is possible that a serious health crisis within a family can have a reunifying effect. After learning of his father's cancer diagnosis, Harry hopped straight on a plane to see the King, although they only had a short meeting, said to be due to the last-minute nature of the trip. However, while Harry was in the UK he did not see his elder brother Prince William.

The Times reported shortly after Harry's whirlwind visit to the UK that, according to sources close to the Duke, he would be willing to step in and help temporarily whilst his father undergoes cancer treatment - something that sources close to William called "unthinkable".

However, as reported in The Independent, a royal source has said that if one family member could help ease Harry's path back into the royal fold, it would be Princess Eugenie. The road back to a royal role - or even a closer relationship with his family - may be unlikely to be a simple one, after all the allegations made by Harry and Meghan about the royal household's relationship with the press and other private familial tensions that were made public in Harry's memoir Spare, which was released last year.

The source speaking to the Independent explained that Eugenie "has always been known for being wise beyond her years, and is great at giving advice," and given that she has recently experienced dealing with her mother Sarah's own cancer diagnosis, she will likely be well equipped to support her cousin and his concerns about the King.

"She and Harry are still very close, so there's no doubt she'll be there for him over the coming months – and if she can help at all with relations between him and the family, of course she will," added the source.

The younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is known to have maintained a close friendship with her cousin since his move across the Atlantic, where he now lives with his wife and two children, Archie and Lilibet, in California, with Eugenie visiting Harry in the US more than once.
