Conor Gallagher is determined to fight for his long-term future at Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has been impressive for the Blues this season. He has started in all but one Premier League game under Mauricio Pochettino and has captained the side on several occasions.

However, Gallagher has less than 18 months on his contract and his future is uncertain. According to the Daily Mail, 'no significant progress' has been made on discussions over an extension. Tottenham and other Premier League rivals are monitoring the situation ahead of a potential summer move.

It's understood Gallagher has not contemplated departing Chelsea and is prioritising staying at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder is currently earning £50,000 per week and the Blues are reluctant to break their unofficial £150,000 per week pay ceiling for Gallagher, who had been linked with a shock switch away in January.

The Mail report that Chelsea are believed to be under pressure to sell players in order to stay within profit and sustainability rules. The Blues have spent over a £1billion since Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich, with Wesley Fofana, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo their most expensive purchases.

Despite Gallagher having a year left on his deal, Chelsea will want a minimum of £50m if they were to sell this summer. If the Blues secured a fee of that magnitude, it would be just shy of the £60m they made on Mason Mount when he was sold to Manchester United last summer.

Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup on Sunday, Gallagher opened up on his future and revealed his intention to stay at Stamford Bridge. "Obviously there is another year and a half left of my contract and I absolutely love playing with the manager," he said. "Playing almost every game has been incredible.

"Last season I was in and out the team and it wasn't this enjoyable. "I just want to keep playing as much I can for Chelsea, keep trying to improve and try and be successful."

Meanwhile, Pochettino confirmed he had held talks with Gallagher over his future last month. When asked whether a definitive decision had been taken, Pochettino said at the time: "No, no, no. We talked about many, many subjects because it's normal. But it's a very natural situation that, of course, we talk in a very natural way.

"If you want to ask me if I was talking with Conor about this situation, yes. Like all the players when some rumour happens, always it's good to have a good conversation with the player, like Ian Maatsen, or different players like this, Andrey Santos.

"I think always it's important for us, the coaches, to have very clear and very direct, honest conversations with the players. It's healthy to have these type of relationships.

‌"I think he’s doing a fantastic job, he’s working well, he's helping the club and us and team-mates a lot. We are happy with his performances. He has an advantage because he knows the club, he knows the demands of the Premier League. We are so happy with him."
