EasyJet passengers will need to check the airline's hand luggage rules before heading to the airport.

Airlines including TUI, Ryanair, Jet2 and British Airways all have their own hand luggage restrictions on what you can bring onboard for free, as well as their own rules on what food and drink is allowed onboard.

Under its current policy, easyJet allows all passengers to bring one small cabin bag on board, per person.

It can be a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles or wheels) and needs to fit under the seat in front of you. The bag can weigh up to 15kg, but the airline has warned you'll need to be able to lift it and carry it yourself, so don't expect crew to help you when you're onboard. If you want to bring a larger cabin bag on board, you can book this for extra with Speedy Boarding - but your bag will still be subject to a maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including any handles and wheels.

easyJet Plus cardholders or those on a FLEXI fare can also bring a large cabin bag on board in addition to their small cabin bag. (You can find out more here.)

Of course for families, there's the extra step of checking what your kids can bring onboard - and if you've got babies and toddlers and you're travelling with the likes of a travel cot or pram that you don't want to put in your hold luggage, it can feel tricky to meet the restrictions.

The good news is that there is a bit more flexibility than you'd expect. For a start, infants with booked seats and children over two years old have the same cabin bag and hold luggage allowance as adults.

The airline's website states: "We can also carry two additional items for your child in the hold for free; these include a travel cot, pushchair, car seat, collapsible or non-collapsible pram, booster seat and/or baby back carrier."

As for baby milk and baby food? The good news is that there is no legal limit on how much you can take. According to the UK government website: "When travelling with a baby you’re allowed to take enough baby food, baby milk and sterilised water for the journey. There is no legal limit to how much you can take however check with your airport before you travel.

"You can carry breast milk in hand luggage even if you’re not travelling with a baby. You cannot carry frozen breast milk in hand luggage. Individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml. Each container will need to be screened at the security point. Airport staff might need to open the containers to screen the liquids."
