Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool were faced with two new issues after winning the Carabao Cup last weekend.

The Reds beat Chelsea 1-0 after extra-time at Wembley thanks to a late header from Virgil van Dijk, but they lost Ryan Gravenberch to injury in the first half following a challenge from Moises Caicedo, and Wataru Endo was later spotted leaving the stadium on crutches after suffering from another Caicedo challenge.

The pair were ruled out of Wednesday night's FA Cup fifth round tie against Southampton by the manager, but the Reds were also without two more starters from the Wembley clash due to illness, with neither Andy Robertson or Alexis Mac Allister passed fit to start, athough Mac Allister did earn a spot on the bench.

Speaking before the Saints clash Klopp said: "We just try to recover (from Sunday). There was nothing, no big celebration. You saw it in the stadium. It was what we had.

"The dressing room probably people could see as well. That was it. Since then we try to recover and find a team for tonight. That's what we did.

"We had a couple of problems added on. Ryan (Gravenberch) was clear. Endo cannot play. Robbo got ill. Macca was ill and he came back this morning. We'll see how long he can do."

As well as Gravenberch and Endo, Liverpool are still without goalkeeper Alisson, defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip, midfielders Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic and forwards Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.
