New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been reassured by general manager Joe Schoen that the team believes in him, despite rumours about a new quarterback ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Giants have the No. 6 pick in the draft, which will happen between April 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan. The 2024 Draft class is packed with talented quarterbacks like Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina), and Jayden Daniels (LSU), who are expected to be the first three picks.

Jones signed a four-year contract worth $160 million (£126m) with the Giants in the 2023 offseason after they chose to use their franchise tag on running back Saquon Barkley and prioritised re-signing the quarterback. However, last season was tough for the Giants as they only won 6 out of 17 games, and Jones only played in six games, losing five of them.

Jones had a difficult season due to injuries, including neck problems and a torn ACL, and he only managed to throw two touchdowns and six interceptions. But on Tuesday, Schoen made it clear who his top choice is, stating: "I have faith in Daniel Jones as our starting quarterback."

There were rumours that the Giants might choose a future quarterback because of their high draft pick, but Schoen confirmed that this isn't part of their immediate plans, even though Jones is just getting back on the field. Speaking live from the NFL combine on Tuesday, Schoen eased Jones' concerns with a clear statement of intent ahead of the draft.

"He's actually throwing, he's been throwing for about two weeks stationary," Schoen said. "He's not dropping back or any of that stuff. He's on track, he's doing everything he can to get back and we are optimistic about where he is... we haven't had any setbacks yet.

"If he continues at that pace he should be ready at the start of training camp." That doesn't mean that the Giants won't select quarterbacks in the draft, especially as their lack of depth was clear to see in 2023.

Both Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito filled in for Jones last year, with the latter making headlines as he still lives at home with his parents. But Schoen is also aware that other areas of the roster also need strengthening, making for a crucial few nights in Detroit.

"The reality is he’s (Jones) coming off three injuries in two years," Schoen said. "That’s facts. It’s something we’ve gotta consider. We’re gonna address it through free agency and if there’s an opportunity in the draft — we’re gonna look at every position, not only quarterback because we do have needs across the roster."

The Giants might not pick a quarterback in the first round, but they're in a great spot to draft a talented wide receiver. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers are considered the best two receivers in the draft, so the Giants could have a good chance to pick Rome Odunze from Washington.
