Joe Gomez claims Liverpool want to win more silverware for Jurgen Klopp as part of his glorious “last hurrah”.

Liverpool are targeting an historic quadruple after lifting a record 10th Carabao Cup and Gomez says the success has made them hungry for more. Gomez claims the players know how pivotal these last few months of the season will be as Klopp prepares to say goodbye and says it is firing them up to win even more trophies for him.

“It’s kind of like obvious, it doesn’t need to be spoken about,” he said. “Everyone knows about the importance and we get that aura anyway in team meetings at the minute.

“We know it’s that last hurrah and we just want to give our all for him. We always did, but now when the finishing line is in sight, it adds that extra emphasis.

“It’s special and hopefully it’s the first of a few we can get this year.” There is no respite for Liverpool and they face Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, Nottingham Forest in the league on Saturday and Sparta Prague next week in the Europa League.

Then there’s the small matter of Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, March 10. “We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we’re in every competition and we’re going to try to win every game,” said Gomez, who is only player at Anfield who pre-dates Klopp.

“That’s the target and we’ll go again. We have a game again in three days, we’ll have to band the boys together and see what we can do.”

Klopp hailed the triumph as the best of his 20-year career as a manager and Liverpool had just three first team regulars on the pitch when Virgil van Dijk headed home the winner in extra-time. Liverpool finished with three teenagers, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old and Gomez says this success is all down to Klopp and the culture he has created at the club.

“I saw the other day he’s given the most debuts,” he said. “It’s credit to the gaffer he makes the younger lads come and feel so confident and comfortable to make the impact they’ve made.

“A lot of us have been nurtured by him and he’s unbelievable at that. He’s such a great manger and creates an environment where the boys can come in and express themselves and that’s down to him.

“It’s special for the young boys, they deserve a big mention as they came in for a cup final. All of us feel that pressure so they will too. I hope they can enjoy it.”

Klopp enjoyed the celebrations at the final whistle with his players and staff in front of the fans, but Gomez does not expect him to change his mind and stay on. “I think he knows he’s done everything he can,” he said.

“He’s won it all. Everyone respects his decision and we understand it. He’s one of the wisest men we know and when he says he’s ready, he’s ready [to go]. It is what it is, we can’t dwell on that, we just have to do him justice.”
