Gary Neville labelled Chelsea "billion-pound bottle jobs" after Virgil van Dijk netted the winner for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The match looked as if it was going to penalties after both sides failed to score in 90 minutes at Wembley, with Van Dijk having a headed effort controversially ruled out.

With just minutes left of extra time, and both sides coming close, the Netherlands international came up trumps - and Manchester United legend Neville, providing commentary for Sky Sports, couldn't help but pile into the Blues.

"It's [Jurgen] Klopp's kids against the billion-pound bottle jobs," announced Neville, adding: "I've got no sympathy whatsoever!"

Speaking after the match, Van Dijk said: "It means so much, all the young boys on the pitch in extra time, it's incredible I'm so proud of the team, intense game for both sides, we had chances and... amazing."

Referring to the injury crisis that has rocked Liverpool in recent weeks and saw Klopp field an inexperienced side in the final this Sunday, Van Dijk joked: "I didn't want to get injured, I tried to get up a little bit quick.

"Listen it's emotion, it's everything and I'm so proud of the boys, all the young boys playing their part in what we achieved today and it's incredible and, yeah, onto more."

On whether Klopp's exit at the end of the season made the win even more special, Van Dijk concluded: "You should always saviour the good moments and this is one of them, listen, we will never take these moments for granted.

"We are very blessed and it could have gone the other way but we did it even with all the problems before the game and I'm so proud. So proud of all the boys, they all played their part."
