Jamie Carragher had the last laugh over Micah Richards after Liverpool beat Luton 4-1 in the Premier League.

Carragher and Richards were both on punditry duty alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and presenter Kate Abdo for CBS Sports' coverage of the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday, with Porto beating Arsenal 1-0 and Napoli drawing 1-1 with Barcelona.

The broadcast took place at the same time as Liverpool's game against Luton and after the Hatters took an early lead through Chiedozie Ogbene, Richards could not wait to let Carragher know his team were losing.

"I have breaking news," the former Manchester City defender said. "In the title race... Liverpool 0, Luton 1". Carragher was not happy to hear the news, asking for confirmation that Luton were winning before admitting: "I feel sick".

Carragher's reaction left Richards, Henry and Abdo in hysterics, but he ultimately had the last laugh after Liverpool mounted a second-half comeback to win the game 4-1. Captain Virgil van Dijk scored a brace, while Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott were also on target for the Reds.

The win means Liverpool now sit four points clear of City at the top of the table, although Pep Guardiola's side do have a game in hand, and after the Reds' comeback Carragher simply tweeted: "I feel a lot better now @MicahRichards".

And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hailed a "thunderstorm" performance from his side as he compared it to their famous comeback win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals back in 2019.

"I promised my team a few months ago that I would never mention the Barcelona game as an example and I used it again today so I broke my promise," Klopp said. "Just because this game was kind of similar. Many players missing, quite similar.

"This is now their Barcelona, it was against Luton. Difficult situation, plenty of reasons to give up in moments but not tonight and I saw only a super group fighting. If you don't limit yourself with bad thoughts you can fly, that's what the boys did. The second half was a thunderstorm, wow. Wow."

Liverpool will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley as they look to lift the trophy for a record tenth time.
