Kyle Walker was booked in Manchester City 's win over Brentford as he renewed his ongoing tussle with Neal Maupay.

The pair clashed when the champions secured a recent win in west London as the England international complained to referee Jarred Gillett and fourth official Stuart Attwell late on in the match. Walker claimed that Maupay had thrown some verbals in his direction.

Clearly there was no love lost between the pair and, within minutes of coming on, Maupay found himself going into a 50-50 with Walker. The City defender certainly took the man and copped a yellow card for his efforts, leaving the Brentford player on the ground.

It was a forgettable night for the striker, who gave the ball away which set City on their way to the game's winning goal, scored by Erling Haaland. Maupay has earned himself a reputation as a bit of a wind up having also rattled James Maddison in a recent outing.

The Brentford star copied Maddison's dart throwing celebration when he scored a goal against Tottenham, which resulted in the pair having a scuffle moments later. Maddison commented after the game that the striker hadn't scored enough goals recently to warrant his own celebration, only for Maupay to fire back on social media.

Tuesday night was the second time in a fortnight that the Etihad outfit have beaten the west Londoners, despite the Bees securing a memorable double over the champions last season. It allowed Pep Guardiola's men to close to within a point of leaders Liverpool.

The Catalan praised match winner Haaland, who had fluffed his lines in front of goal at the weekend, but maintained that he never lost confidence in the prolific Norwegian. He said: “Sooner or later always they are there. He was out for two months [injured].

“He had an incredibly tough week last week, he lost his grandmother and it’s not easy for a human being. But he scored when he’s not in his best shape at the moment. He’s so tall, out for two months. We spoke about the moment but he didn’t say anything about the passing of his grandmother.

“We talked a little about how he feels and of course [it was tough] for his father. In these types of games, especially against Brentford you need Erling. In these type of games like Brentford it’s really difficult for us because you can break in transition like Liverpool did in the last game, but against us there is no spaces. Last season we lost six points against them, fortunately [this season] we can win them both.”
