Upgrade your bacon sarnie game this weekend with a little-known hack to crisp up your rashers.

Nothing beats a bacon and egg sandwich to start your Saturday or Sunday morning, slathered in tomato or brown sauce (or both) and washed down with a strong coffee or cup of tea. But perfecting your morning munch and achieving that satisfyingy crisp bacon can be difficult. Despite our best intentions, the result can sometimes be charred, rubbery meat.

There's no need for fancy grilling machines or expensive oils, according to one mum who says her method works every time. Plus, it won't cost you a penny.

Donna Urso, known as Just One Donna online, swears by adding a little bit of water when cooking bacon on the stove. Yes, you read that right... Water.

The cook says her tried-and-tested recipe works by moderating the temperature of the bacon, allowing it to cook much more evenly. This means the meat will crisp up together, rather than parts turning black whilst the other half is still limp and soggy.

"The water prevents the bacon from sticking to the pan, which can be a common issue when pan-frying," Donna explained. "As the water heats and circulates throughout the pan, it prevents hot spots and uneven cooking.

"It is also much cleaner and seems less messy than traditional pan-frying methods. The water helps to keep the grease from splattering all over your stove." Donna compared the two together and says the end result was hard to distinguish, but if your bacon isn't crisping up on its own - it may be worth adding a little H2O.
