Jurgen Klopp claims it will be “tricky” for the world’s top clubs to sign Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe has told Paris St-Germain he intends to leave in the summer when he will be out of contract with the French giants. Mbappe has a one-year extension and it is believed PSG want to use that to get some money for him.

The France striker’s departure from PSG will put the world’s richest clubs on alert and Real Madrid are expected to land him. Mbappe’s future is one issue Klopp does not have to worry about as he prepares to step down from Liverpool in the summer and the Reds boss does not believe many clubs will be after the superstar.

Liverpool have long been linked with Mbappe, even though there is no prospect of him coming to Anfield. Klopp says money is the issue with these super deals and the sums involved mean that only a very few clubs can seriously talk about signing Mbappe.

Klopp is a big admirer of Jude Bellingham, but it is understood the huge figures involved in his deal when he left Borussia Dortmund to join Real last summer meant the Reds could not compete. Although Mbappe will be a free agent this summer, his wage demands will put him beyond virtually every club while Klopp says there are other prohibitive costs, such as his signing-on fee.

Klopp claimed he didn’t “have a clue” when asked if he expected Mbappe to join Real. When asked if he expected the world’s top clubs to all be in for Mbappe, Klopp admitted he would be “surprised” if that happened.

“Obviously, I’m not involved in that, but I can tell you I’d be surprised if all the top clubs were,” he said. “The top clubs I know, for most of them it will be tricky - wages, signing-on fee.”

Mbappe, 25, reportedly earns a staggering £180million-a-year in wages and bonuses at PSG and has turned down a new contract offer from the Ligue 1 side to leave. Mbappe, who has scored 243 goals in 290 games for PSG, will take a wage cut to join Real, but he will still be their highest-paid player ever.

PSG rejected a £188million offer from Real in 2021 and last year they accepted a £256million offer from Saudi side Al Hilal, only for the player to turn them down. Real have pursued Mbappe for many years and it seems they will finally land him in the summer.
