Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne suffered an embarrassing dismissal in the third ODI against India when he was run out by Mohammed Siraj after playing a simple forward defence straight back to the bowler.

However, Karunaratne's big mistake was holding the pose after defending the delivery, with Siraj quickly gathering the ball and launching it back at the stumps.

Karunaratne did attempt to get back into his ground, but he lost his balance and fell over as the ball crashed into his stumps. And replays ultimately showed that Karunaratne failed to make his ground, with the 26-year-old sent packing for just one.

"What a bizarre way to get out for Chamika Karunaratne," said one of the commentators. "He defended, he was posing, a few words exchanged before the ball was bowled.

"And then Mohammed Siraj in one swoop picked it up and a direct hit at the stumps caught Chamika Karunaratne off guard and outside the crease so he has to make the walk back to the pavilion."

Sri Lanka ultimately collapsed to 73 all out, suffering a crushing defeat by 317 runs after brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli saw India post an imposing total of 390-5.

It was the largest margin of victory in terms of runs in ODI history, with Kohli's unbeaten 166 meaning he is now just three hundreds behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored the most ODI hundreds ever with 49.

Karunaratne, meanwhile, was handed a one-year suspended ban by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in November after he was found guilty of breaching their player agreement during last year's T20 World Cup.

A 63-page report into Sri Lanka's World Cup campaign reportedly found that Karunaratne was "involved in a brawl at a casino along with six teammates when the star objected to having his picture taken".
