Dejan Lovren's love for Liverpool was clear for all to see after he posted the lyrics of the club's anthem, 'You'll Never Walk Alone', following the Reds' dismal defeat by Brighton.

The 33-year-old plies his trade with French giants Lyon and made his second appearance for the club on Saturday since re-joining from Russian Premier League side Zenit Saint Petersburg earlier this month. However, Lyon fell to a 2-1 defeat by Strasbourg.

As well as losing his own game in Ligue 1, Lovren's former club Liverpool were hammered 3-0 at Brighton. Solly March's second-half brace was followed up by Danny Welbeck's late strike to earn the Seagulls a well-deserved win at the Amex Stadium.

Liverpool were simply shambolic, in contrast, as they suffered their second successive Premier League defeat to leave them languishing in mid-table, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the table. In Response Lovren, who played over 150 times for the Reds, posted a message of support on social media to the Reds faithful, using lyrics from You'll Never Walk Alone.

Lovren said on Instagram: "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark… With hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone!"

After his side's horror show on the south coast, Jurgen Klopp admitted that they made it far too easy for the Seagulls to cut them open. This was Brighton's second successive win over a Merseyside team, having also battered Everton 4-1 last Tuesday.

Klopp said: "Congratulations to Brighton, they played an outstanding game. I really thought in moments we made it a little bit too easy for them, but in general, they played outstanding and we didn't. We tried to help the boys with slightly different organisation.

"I actually thought it could have worked pretty well; we had moments where it worked well, where put them under pressure, but in all situations when we won the ball, we lost the balls in the moment much too easy. That’s the main problem, so it means we never get this something going. Brighton was better for the whole 90 minutes, but it is 0-0 at half-time, so it is allowed for us as well to play not a good half.

"We have a kind of result and let’s go from there, but then obviously the second half started with the worst possible start. Being 1-0 down and the game it was already clear already that one team is ready play a really good game and one team fights with themselves pretty much to get something going.

"That's difficult to organise protection for losing balls you should not lose, it is not easy. Fully my responsibility because I had an idea with a different formation and it didn’t work out. So, [I am] sorry."

Liverpool have the chance to return to winning ways as they take on Wolves in a third-round FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening, before hosting Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
