Wes Anderson fans can now catch the acclaimed filmmaker’s latest big-screen project at home, as Asteroid City comes to TV and streaming platforms. The 2023 comedy-drama is written, directed and produced by the Oscar-nominated auteur, who is best known for films including The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

It takes place in a fictional American desert town around 1955. It follows the itinerary of the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention – organised to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition – as it is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

The film boasts a star studded ensemble cast – many of whom have worked with Anderson several times – including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Steve Carell, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie and Jeff Goldblum. Asteroid City premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the coveted Palme d’Or.

It went on to more than double its $25 million budget, taking $54 million worldwide after opening with a limited release and earning positive reviews. The Independent gave Asteroid City five stars, hailing it as an enrapturing cosmic comedy that is “as arch as [Anderson’s] best work, while still managing to tug hard on the heartstrings.”
