Jamie Carragher believes Thiago Silva 's wife, Belle, has caused her husband a big problem following her social media outburst at Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The veteran defender, 39, was dropped for last weeks' FA Cup fourth round replay against Aston Villa just days after his wife shared a post which appeared to suggest that Chelsea should dismiss Pochettino following a heavy defeat against Wolves.

Pochettino insisted that Belle's comments were not behind Silva's absence against Villa and he did recall the Brazilian for Monday night's dramatic 3-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Belle apologised in a separate post shortly before the Villa match.

While there doesn't appear to be any long-lasting damage done by Belle's social media activity, Carragher feels that Silva will continue to be scrutinised in the aftermath of the drama.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former Liverpool icon said: "Thiago Silva is one of the best centre-backs of his generation and he’s shown that since he’s come to Chelsea. But there is a bit of pressure on him [now]. He didn’t play against Aston Villa, the team had a great result and the two centre-backs played really well.

"And he starts off the back of what was said by his wife. In terms of family members speaking, I think back to when I was a player. Whether it be your wife, your father, your brother… whoever it may be should not be going public about a manager.

"Sometimes an agent comes out and speaks about a player. That is not right and it has to stop. It’s not the first time it’s happened. It’s put him in an awkward position. He’s a fantastic footballer but there will be a few eyes on him. Sooner or later, Chelsea have to move on from Thiago Silva given the age of him."

Silva, who is due to be a free agent in the summer, was replaced midway through the second-half of Chelsea's win at Palace with what looked like a groin injury.

The Eagles headed in at the break ahead courtesy of a Jefferson Lerma thunderbolt but Conor Gallagher, a former Palace loanee, restored parity early in the second-half. The Blues captain struck again at the death before Enzo Fernandez added a third soon after.

Chelsea end the weekend 10th in the Premier League standings while Palace remain just five points above the relegation zone after another loss.
