Jurgen Klopp claims Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a recurrence of his knee injury as Liverpool responded to their loss at Arsenal by reclaiming the top spot in the Premier League.
Alexander-Arnold was forced off at half-time and Klopp revealed he hurt his knee when he caught his studs in the turf. The Reds vice-captain missed three weeks last month with a tear in his ligaments and Klopp said: “Yeah, he felt it. He stuck it in the grass and we have to do an assessment.”
Liverpool were also without Alisson, Joe Gomez and Ryan Gravenberch through illness and Klopp was delighted his side showed character to win.
“Today for some obvious and less obvious reasons it was a really tricky afternoon,” said the Reds boss. “It was about how we dealt with that, about how much character we could show and the boys showed exactly what we needed.”
Liverpool's win means they leapfrog Manchester City, who won earlier in the day, to return to the Premier League summit after last weekend's loss at Arsenal.

The Reds currently hold a slender two-point advantage over the champions, although Pep Guardiola's side do have a game in hand on their title rivals. Klopp made it clear post-match that he wouldn't be getting carried away following the win.
“Ten days ago we played incredible against Chelsea then we lost to Arsenal. It's always a different challenge. If it's not clicking straight away, fight through it. It was really tough today but the boys fought through and got three points.”

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany claimed his side created enough to get a result. He said: “I’ve been to this place as a player quite a few times and we didn’t have as many chances as we did today. You need to put away your chances and we didn’t do that.”
