Michail Antonio has labelled Neal Maupay as the "most disliked" player in the Premier League and has warned him that one day he will "get beaten up".

Maupay, who joined Brentford on loan from Everton last summer, has rediscovered his form in recent weeks, scoring in each of his last five appearances. The Frenchman netted the opener against Manchester City on Monday, though it wasn't enough to his side to get anything from the game.

Amid his impressive scoring run, Maupay has come under criticism for continuing to wind his opponents up. It has been a common theme of his game for some time, but in recent weeks Maupay and James Maddison clashed while the ex-Brighton forward was involved in a bust-up with Kyle Walker.

During Brentford's trip to Tottenham last month, Maupay gave the Bees the lead and decided to perform Maddison's infamous darts celebration. It was an incident that seemed to wind Maddison up as the pair collided when Maupay was walking back to the halfway line. After the game - which Spurs won 3-2 - Maddison then hit out at Maupay in his post-match interview before taking the feud over to social media.

This was followed by Maupay's altercation with Walker. It occurred during the final 10 minutes of the match as Walker could be seen having an animated discussion with referee Jarred Gillett after an interaction with Maupay. Pep Guardiola decided to step in and calm the situation down.

Now, West Ham forward Antonio has delivered his verdict on Maupay and believes he is the "most disliked person on the field". Antonio told the Footballers Football podcast: "Maupay is known to be a bit of a wind-up!

"I know someone who knows him and he's meant to be a nice guy off the pitch but he does it on purpose. I feel he goes on the pitch to rub people up the wrong way and he's known for it now.

"He is probably the most disliked person on the field. One of these days he is going to get beaten up! Back in the day things used to happen in the tunnel, but it’s 2024 now and you probably wouldn’t get away with it."
