BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty dramatically reacts to co-star bolting off screen

BBC Breakfast news presenter Naga Munchetty was left shocked after her co-star ran off set following an embarrassing admission live on air.

The BBC news presenter, 48, was in a verbal exchange with weather presenter Carol Kirkwood when the humiliating moment occurred. Naga, who was co-hosting the news segment with Charlie Stayt, had joked about Carol's excitement over a man who had spent eight years building a sculpture of the French Eiffel Tower out of matchsticks.

She asked her fellow BBC Breakfast weather presenter: "The real information you wanted was about matchsticks, the number of matchsticks in boxes? Didn't you?" And it was at this point that Carol embarrassingly responded: "I'm constipated with anticipation." Visibly left shocked by Carol's response, Naga said: "Oh that sounds painful! I hope you can sort that out!"

Desperate to quell the humiliation, Charlie interrupted the exchange and said: "I wasn't expecting that!" Following the awkward exchange, Carol was then seen trying to secretly leave the set as the cameras caught her every move. But the weather presenter's attempts was not only caught on camera but by also Naga who quipped:"Oh look she's left! The constipation of excitement is getting to her."

Keen to end the conversation, Charlie sternly added: "Get on with it, will you please get on with it." And his co-star quickly got the segment back on track by announcing that it would have taken an estimated 8,300 match boxes to complete the structure. And this means that it would have cost £11,700 to purchase. Carol emerged and responded saying: "Wow I’m impressed, that’s good information. Good for the next pub quiz I must say, I’ll remember that." This comes after it emerged earlier this month that BBC Breakfast viewers were left confused following another shake-up that saw Naga missing her third week on the show.

Charlie was sat on the sofa with BBC star with Sally Nugent as he hosted the show alongside regular stand-ins for Naga. Sally had announced that she would be standing in for Naga in a post on Instagram with a behind-the-scenes photo and a caption: "Bonus trip to the office!"

Naga's absence follows an announcement at the end of last year when the broadcaster announced it would be merging its two news channels. .It announced that Martine Croxall, Kasia Madera, Annita McVeigh, Geeta Guru-Murthy and Karin Giannone would be leaving with immediate effect but the corporation then reversed the decision for a couple of the presenters, who will now return to their roles. The Times also reported that the BBC would be offering the other presenters a permanent role to avoid legal action being taken. One person who was absent was presenter Nina Warhurst who recently returned from maternity leave.

Presenter Jon Kay said: "I am delighted to say that back from maternity leave it's Nina. Lovely to see you." And Nina said: "Thank you very much it's lovely to be back. I have missed the gang. I'm missing the baby this morning very much but yeah it's lovely to be back. Best job in the world. And best baby in the world. She added: "I know everyone thinks their baby is the best one but sorry guys, mine actually is."
