Emily MacDonagh has opened up about being a parent and stepparent and said she tries to be "supportive" of her husband Peter Andre's eldest children.
The doctor, 34, has been in a relationship with Peter, 50, for more than a decade. The couple - who have been married since 2015 - have two children together, and are expecting a third, with them parents to Millie, nine, and Theo, seven.
Through the relationship, Emily is also a stepparent to her husband's eldest two children Junior Andre, 18, and Princess Andre, 16, whom Peter shares with his ex-wife Katie Price, 45. She spoke about being a parent and a stepparent recently.
Emily spoke about the family with Bella magazine following the launch of her new book Healthy Mind, Happy You. She discussed approaching mental health with her two children and stepchildren in the recent interview with the outlet.
The author shared that she "probably doesn't dress it up" as mental health with Millie and Theo. Emily said she talks to her kids "a lot" about "how they're feeling". She said that they reflect on each day at the dinner table, with the family covering "what was good" as well as "what wasn't so good".
Peter Andre says he will 'leave the country' if kids decide to go on Love IslandAsked how she approaches the topic with her stepchildren Junior and Princess, she said: "I treat the kids the same and just try to be supportive. I guess it's a different approach with teenagers, but in many ways, it's about being open and allowing them to come to you. It's a tough balance to get right and no one's perfect." Emily said they do their "best".
Whilst discussing her family, Emily also spoke about the potential for her children to look up to their older siblings. She told the outlet that she has "never found it too hard," noting that the age gap between them "makes it easier".
She shared that, for example, if Junior and Princess were having a carbonated soft drink at a meal, it's "easy" for Emily to tell her kids that the pair are "allowed" it because they are "grown-ups." She said it "would be harder" if there was only a few years between her kids and her stepchildren.
Emily also spoke about expanding the family, with her latest pregnancy having been announced last year. She shared that everyone is "so excited" for the new arrival and added that there's a "really lovely vibe". She acknowledged that there's a "wide age range" but said there's a "lovely dynamic," adding that she thinks the older kids "will be really helpful".
Announcing the news in October, Emily and her husband Peter wrote in a joint post to their followers on Instagram: "We are delighted to share the news with you all. A new addition to our family in 2024. The kids are so excited. So are we."
