King Charles will not let his recent cancer diagnosis “stop him” and will carry on with his duties as monarch, said a former royal butler.
The monarch is now at his Sandringham estate in Norfolk where he will be convalescing following Buckingham Palace ’s announcement he has “a form of cancer” on Monday, without going into specific details.
The King has begun a schedule of regular treatments, but has been advised to postpone his public-facing duties. He will carry on working behind the scenes on state business and official papers, such as attending the Privy Council meetings and the weekly meeting with PM Rishi Sunak.
And other royals, especially Prince William and Anne will also fill in for him where necessary. Charles has now already had his first treatment for the cancer and former royal butler Grant Harold said that he expects him to continue working hard.
King Charles has been diagnosed with a "form of cancer" (POOL/AFP via Getty Images)"He's somebody who will not let anything stop him, so when it comes to health, I am not surprised he said that behind the scenes he is going to carry on,” he told Sky News. “When I worked for him for several years I saw the man behind the scenes and he is somebody who puts duty, like his late mother, he puts his duty ahead of everything, and dare I say it, even above his health.

"He is somebody he works extremely hard (...) I’m guessing that with this diagnosis he is still not going to let things stop him and you can almost guarantee that he has said he is going to carry on with his work, his red boxes which are almost daily I think except for Christmas Day and also his audiences with the Prime Minister will probably continue as well. So I think behind the scenes he will continue to do the duty of monarch and not only that he will continue to work as hard, I don’t see him slowing down."

The statement from Buckingham Palace released on Monday said: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
