Jermain Defoe believes that Tottenham are the best team to watch in the Premier League - and that Ange Postecoglou's side are good enough to set their sights beyond a top-four finish.

Spurs made an electric start to the season under Postecoglou, going 10 matches unbeaten at the start of the campaign before injuries took hold. The loss of key figures such as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven had a detrimental effect on form, but Tottenham are still fourth in the table, eight points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Postecoglou has strengthened in the January transfer window and also recently welcomed Maddison back into the fold ahead of the second half of the campaign.

And Defoe is adamant that Spurs would be higher in the table were it not for the injury crisis they suffered. He tells Mirror Football: "Ange and the boys have done so well. The place is absolutely rocking at the minute.

"People mention the top-four, which would be great. But I think we were really unfortunate with the injuries we've picked up. At one stage, I think it was Jamie Redknapp who said it, he pointed out that take away the injuries, Tottenham would be top of the league - and I probably agree with him.

"You have to take each game as it comes. People say about the top-four, but why can't Tottenham challenge? And if you're not going to win the league, then why can't you come second and then if not second, why not third? I believe that the players are good enough to do that."

Postecoglou has won plenty of the plaudits for the manner in which he's transformed Tottenham's identity on the pitch and Defoe feels Spurs are now the top-flight's great entertainers.

He adds: "I think Tottenham are probably one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Premier League now. When I think about what coaches I like watching - one's with a clear idea and a way of playing - then [Roberto] De Zerbi at Brighton is one.

"I look at Brighton and I think, 'Yeah, I can see what they've worked on and what they're doing'. I like watching them play. It's the exact same thing with Tottenham.

"At the minute we're just so exciting to watch. When I go to the games, every attack it feels like they're going to score. Once we've got a full squad with the injured players back and maybe a couple of boys from the academy, who knows what we can achieve?"
