Manchester City supporter Liam Gallagher is delighted to see the back of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Klopp announced on Friday that he is stepping down from his role as Reds manager at the end of the 2023/24 season. The 56-year-old has been in charge of Liverpool since October 2015 and has won every trophy on offer, including the Champions League and Premier League.

His success has endeared him to Liverpool supporters, who were shocked by the news that he had decided to call time. But Klopp’s departure has received a very different reaction from fans of other clubs, including former Oasis frontman Gallagher, who is renowned for his vociferous support of City on social media.

Gallagher appeared on Radio X on Friday to speak about a collaboration between himself and Stone Roses guitarist John Squire. After talking to host Johnny Vaughan about their upcoming collaborative album, he was quizzed briefly on Klopp’s departure from Liverpool.

“Yeah good riddance man,” Gallagher shot back bluntly. Vaughan replied with: “Absolutely right. Spoken like a gentleman…” before Gallagher added: “I’ve got nothing, yeah, good riddance. See you later!”

Gallagher has a history of showing hatred towards Liverpool, who he not-so-hilariously branded “Lucky Pool” after a 2-2 draw with Man City in April 2022. He is never shy of sharing his opinion on City’s rivals and will no doubt be hoping that Klopp's exit sees the club fade from view in the Premier League.

At present Liverpool are five points ahead of City in the table, although Pep Guardiola ’s side do have a game in hand. Klopp won’t care what Gallagher thinks of him and has made the decision after realising he cannot continue to give his all to the club, due to the stresses and strains of the role.

"It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy,” he said. “I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

"After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth."

Klopp has vowed to stay completely focused in the meantime – and he has a lot on his plate, with Liverpool still competing in four competitions. His side play Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, while they also have a Carabao Cup final against Chelsea to look forward to next month and a Europa League last-16 tie on the horizon.
