Ex-Egypt star Mido takes bitter swipe at Salah for returning to Liverpool

Ex-Egypt star Mido has mocked Mohamed Salah as he continues his rehab at Liverpool with the aim of returning to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah has seen his tournament put on hold due to a hamstring injury and has jetted back to Merseyside to increase his chance of getting fit. The Reds forward could still feature in the tournament, which he's never won as Egypt's drought continues despite their impressive history.

The decision to head back to Liverpool proved to be a divisive one and his compatriot has taken a swipe at Salah on social media. A photo was posted online by the 31-year-old of him doing stretches at Liverpool's training base, provoking a sarcastic comment from Mido.

He said on Twitter : "Oh, these exercises are so dirty and rigid, it is difficult to do them except in Liverpool." Salah watched on from the sidelines as Egypt drew their final group game, which earned them a spot in the last 16 of the tournament, where they will play DR Congo.

The Pharaohs, who last won AFCON back in 2010, might only have Salah back in time for a potential final but Jurgen Klopp insists the decision to bring him back to Liverpool was purely to aid his recovery and his out and any suggestions he lacks loyalty to his country.

He said: "If he stays in Africa and they can't do the proper treatment, it will just delay everything, especially for Egypt if they go through the tournament. We bring him here not because we want to take him away from Egypt but just to offer the best medical treatment. That is all we want.

"It's all agreed. If Salah is fit and Egypt go to the final, it was always clear; he goes back, 100 percent. Mo wants that, and we want that. We are completely honest, and if I said something too early… I said, 'I think it's agreed.' That's what I heard.

"The rest, some people make something out of it, and if somebody questions the loyalty of Mo Salah, they should ask themselves if their loyalty is right because Mo Salah is definitely the most loyal Egyptian I've met in my life."
