Tyson Fury 's sparring partner has contradicted dad John's comments by insisting nothing was unusual about the training camp for his fight with Francis Ngannou.
Heavyweight champion Fury was expected to cruise past Ngannou in their crossover fight last October to set up an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk just days before Christmas. The fight went very differently as Fury was dropped and won by just one point, pushing back his Usyk fight until February 17.
John said Fury struggled to prepare for the fight which is why he looked poor on the night. "He didn’t look right, everything had changed about him, his demeanour, his body. I was puzzled. He said he had been training but there is training and there is training," John told Metro. "If you’re going at your own pace no one is going to tell you otherwise, no one is going to offend you or kick you up the backside."

The same story about Fury's training camp isn't shared by English champion Solomon Dacres, as he insisted that Fury's dad wasn't around for most of the preparations. "John wasn’t really in the camp. It’s all good saying it in hindsight. I was there for five weeks. We were sparring hard, doing 12, 15 round sessions," he told Seconds Out.

"I’ve been in previous camps and he was training just as hard as previous camps so it’s hard to say. It’s really more on him than anything. The training camp was preparing for a 12-round fight." Dacres first helped Fury to prepare for his trilogy fight with Derek Chisora and told Mirror Fighting before the Ngannou fight that nothing was out of the ordinary during their camp.
"Nothing changed, he is working hard and sparring hard. Plenty of rounds in, he is training as if Ngannou is the best boxer in the division. Just as hard as he would do for anyone else. There is no cutting corners, running the miles and doing the hard sparring. Preparing very diligently for this one."
Little has been heard from Fury since he flew out to Saudi Arabia on New Year's Eve to prepare for his undisputed fight with Usyk. Ngannou, who fights Anthony Joshua on March 8, wants to rematch Fury if he beats 'AJ' and insisted the second fight between them must take place by October.
