Scottish comedian Janey Godley shared an emotional message from her daughter, Ashley Storrie, on her birthday earlier this week.

The 63-year-old, who is living alongside incurable cancer, had said she was "over the moon" to have celebrated another birthday, two years after she was given her devastating diagnosis that she had stage three ovarian cancer.

After celebrating the day that she never thought "would happen", Janey shared the message from her daughter with her 293,000 followers on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Annie had written on Facebook about her mother, which Janey since shared: "To the woman who birthed me. You made it another year. A year we didn’t think we were going to get. And in amongst the sadness and the regrets and the fear look at what we did. Look at what we’ll do.

"However short a time we have left, whatever remains will never be small. It’ll be big and imperfect and ugly and gorgeous. Just like us. You’ll go out kicking and screaming just as you went through life, just as you came into it. But not for a wee while yet, eh? Happy birthday @janeygodley "

It has been a difficult couple of years for Janey, who has a scan every three months to track the progression of the cancer while undergoing treatment in hospital. The comedian has taken it as positive news that after her last scan, on Friday, it shows that there had been no changes, which means the cancer hasn't spread in the past few months. She wrote on social media about it, saying: "It really is hard living from scan to scan, it's terrifying. Every three months you just think what's it going to be now?"

On her birthday yesterday, Janey shared a message with her followers on social media as she celebrated her big day. She wrote: "This is what 63 looks like, a birthday I thought I'd never get. Another year where I didn't think it would happen and it's happened. I am over the moon with it. It's absolutely overwhelming. I can't wait for what's coming. I've got a lot happening but, mostly, I'm living with cancer and I'm not dying. Thanks everybody."

Fans flocked to the comments to send Janey birthday wishes, with one writing: "Happy Birthday Janey, what beautiful words from your daughter, two peas in a pod I’m sensing. Enjoy your magical & special day." While another added: "Crying and smiling at this. I loved your book, love your comedy and writing. My own mom passed in 2010 and this is something I would have written to her. You are clearly a f***ing fantastic Mum! Happy Birthday Janey. XO"
