Harry Brook will return to England with immediate effect ahead of his country's five-Test tour of India due to personal reasons.

Brook has enjoyed a meteoric rise since making his Test debut in September 2022 and had been expected to form a key part of England's batting order in the subcontinent.

The ECB initially announced he would miss all five matches, but later clarified he could return later in the series.

A statement said: "Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.

"The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course."

Surrey star Dan Lawrence was later named as Brook's replacement.

Brook has cracked four Test hundreds and seven half centuries since bursting on to the scene against South Africa, scoring his runs briskly and at an average of over 62.

He starred on England's tour of Pakistan last winter, scoring three centuries in an iconic series win.

The Yorkshire bat has also formed a key part of England's white-ball sides, helping them lift the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.
