Residents have been evacuated and nearby roads shut after a man was arrested on suspicion of explosive offences in a rural village.
Several houses were evacuated along a residential road in Belper, Derbyshire, after the force was called to reports of concern for the safety of a man just after 6pm last night.
The house was searched and a number of suspicious items were discovered as the man was arrested on suspicion of explosive offences, triggering the evacuation.
A massive 100-metre cordon was quickly erected on advice from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) affecting a number of properties.
To help those affected, a rest centre was set up nearby at the Strutt Centre to attend from 6.15pm.
