A man was forced to contain his join when he discovered he had won $1 million (£784,559.90) on a lottery ticket while sat on a work call.

Andrew Nachman is the first million dollar winner of the Idaho Lottery's $1,000,000 raffle and found out while on a video call to all his colleagues. The McCall resident admitted it was "really hard to hide" his excitement as his work friends looked on.

Discussing how he found out about his win, Nachman said: "My family and I had been on vacation and I was just sitting down for a video conference call for work when I saw the ticket on my desk. It was three minutes to the call, so I checked it. When it said it was the million-dollar winner, I was convinced I had entered the number wrong."

He had to get a second opinion, so urged his wife to call the Lottery office, he continued: “I ran downstairs and gave the ticket to my wife for her to check and then call the Lottery office. Right in the middle of my video conference call, she sends me a text that said, ‘I’m sorry to inform you’ and then there was a long pause between texts…’but it is confirmed!’ It was really hard to hide my excitement on the call.”

Nachman is planning on using his winnings for his children's college education. He isn't the only one to see a benefit, the store where he bought the ticket, the Maverik in McCall, will also receive $20,000 for being the retailer that sold the winning ticket.

The 2024 Idaho $1m raffle sold 450,000 tickets in just 36 days. Up for grabs was two one million dollar top prizes - and the second million-dollar prize remains unclaimed. That winning ticket was sold at an Idaho Lottery retail location in Benewah County. The Idaho Lottery has not been contacted by the winner holding ticket 091588. The Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle generated more than $1,500,000 in dividend revenue to benefit Idaho public schools and buildings this year.

Meanwhile in the UK, Brits could be in with a chance of winning a whopping £7.5million on Saturday night's National Lottery. The draw took place at 7.45pm and will also followed by this week's final £500,000 Thunderball draw, which takes place a short while after at approximately 8.15pm.
